Dog gets death sentence again

For the second time in just over six months a Dobermann dog has had an order imposed in the District Court for its destruction.

Its owner, Annette Evelyn Stewart, aged 38, pleaded guilty yesterday to a charge of owning a dog which rushed at a woman as she walked from a car-park to a shopping centre in Yaldhurst Road on February 11. , Sergeant Richard McCaskill said the dog rushed at the woman, snarling and barking, as she walked from the carpark toward shops. The dog then ran into a nearby property. Sergeant McCaskill said the animal had been the subject of numerous previous complaints. At the time of this incident it was under an order, imposed in the District Court in early February for it to be destroyed. The dog’s destruction was not carried out at the time because an application was made to the Court for revocation of the destruction order.

However, that application was not subsequently proceeded with. Stewart told Judge Frampton she had not had the dog since February 13, two days after the present incident. The Judge fined Stewart $l5O, noting that the dog was no longer under her control. He also made an order for the dog’s destruction, “for what it is worth.”
