Woman drowns
A woman died on Mount Egmont on Monday after being swept away while trying to cross a nooded stream. Sergeant Peter French said the woman was in a party of six on a day tramp. When the party reached the Ngatoro Stream they found it in flood. Three of the party were swept downstream while attempting a crossing. Two managed to make it to the river bank, but the third did not. The body was recovered by searchers about 40m from the, crossing at 6.33 p.m., Sergeant French said: He saidjnext-of-kin had to be notified before the woman couia be named. — PA.
