Sir,-7-On July 18 you printed a list of options open to the Canterbury Area Health Board to help it reduce expenditure. Suggestions made included closing seven country hospitals as well as Queen. Mary Hospital at Hanmei*, Christchurch Women’s Hospital and Cedar and Maple villas at Templeton Hospital. Today “The Press” carries a report lot toe board members’ decision to increase their annual allowances, as well as toe fees paid . for attendance at iheetings. Congratulations to, Mr Cose for ob--jecting to/this increase in expenditure at' a time when many lower-paid and voluntary workers are stretching every dollar to pay for basic needs. — Yours, etc., P.
