PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT AND DEAN OF FACULTY INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS STUDIES INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS (Three Positions) The Pacific International College is a new, fully residential tertiary institution set up by the Educational Foundation Group (Japan), working in conjunction with the City of Palmerston North and Senior New Zealand Academics. The College will cater initially for some five hundred Japanese students. It will offer courses and qualifications of up to two years duration in: International Business Studies, Communication and English Language. The College plans to become registered as a Tertiary Institution in New Zealand and ultimately to offer degrees. A number of its graduates are expected to proceed to universities in the U.S.A, with which the Foundation has joint venture agreements. As Heads of Department, the appointees will be required to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of one department, playing a full part in teaching, administration and research. As Deans of Faculties, the appointees will have responsibility for: participating in the planning and development of the Faculty, coordinating Faculty affairs and maintaining liaison with the Faculties and Departments. As Deans the appointees will also be required to work closely with the Academic Head and be involved in the general management and development of the College. Because they will have particular responsibility for advising students and authorising and monitoring their courses, they will need to be able to cope with cultural diversity and the consequences of cultural difference. A knowledge of the Japanese language is not essential although some familiarity with Japan would be advantageous.
