Greyhounds Steiny Blue win
The ups and downs of racing were well illustrated when the brilliant stayer Steiny Blue returned to winning form, after finishing unplaced at Wellington last Monday, in the New Zealand Cup at Queen Elizabeth II Park yesterday. Papakura trainer and part owner Thayne Green feels he knows what the problem was at Hutt Park, saying “It wasn’t the dog’s fault or anybody connected with her.” Although the answer will probably remain a mystery. Green’s feelings, have no doubt been boosted by the way his bitch demolished the best K stayers in the country. The Christchurch
Greyhound Racing Club’s winter feature, sponsored by the “Christchurch Star,” was ■ run in very heavy conditions, which played into the hands of the tough Papakura bitch. Steiny Blue settled midfield in the early running before embarking on her winning run at the 300 m mark. Just as she has done before Steiny Blue raced clear to record an ever-increasing 18-length winning margin.
Another North Island runner, Medusa, also came from midfield to fill second spot, while the best of the local contenders was last year’s winner, Dawn Mist, which ran on solidly for third;
