AMP discloses shareholdings

Wellington reporter AMP New Zealand, Ltd, yesterday revealed shareholdings of more than five per cent in 14 New Zealand-listed public companies. The holdings were disclosed in response to new securities regulations which came into force at the beginning of the month. On a value basis, the largest holding is in Fletcher Challenge, where the group’s 6.05 per cent holding is valued at $317.2 million. Next most valuable holding is Goodman Fielder Wattie, with a 7.83 per cent holding valued at $231.8 million. Half of this holding is owned by AMP Australia. The insurance company also owns 8.76 per

cent of Christchurch-based Brierley Investments, Ltd, subsidiary. Lane Walker Rudkin, Ltd. The holding is valued at $7.5 million. AMP owns 5.03 per cent of BIL itself, worth $152.2 million. Other major holdings include 8.1 per cent of Carter Holt Harvey, Ltd, 9.55 per cent of Fisher and Paykel Industries, Ltd, and 14.74 per cent of newspaper publisher, Wilson and Horton. On a proportional basis, its largest direct holding is in Opio Forestry, with 20 per cent of the issued capital. A 22.3 per cent holding in Owens Group is also recorded, but only 3.6 per cent is directly held. The balance comprises loan securities.
