Khan wins gold
The New Zealand women’s bowls team won the singles and fours titles at the South Pacific championship yesterday. Waikato’s Millie Khan crushed her Cook Islands opponent, 25-6, at the Suva Bowling Club to beat the Fiji champion and gold medal rival, Maraia Lum On, on points average for the singles gold medal. In the men’s singles, lan Dickison, of Dunedin, won the silver medal behind Australia. The New Zealand fours team of Betty Fitzell (Waikato), Lyn McLean (Manawatu), Adrienne Lambert (Waikato), and Marlene Castle (Auckland), playing their first international tournament, grabbed the gold medal after a 24-22 win over the Cook Islands.—NZPA.
