Haitana ordered off course
PA Auckland Hayden and Pat Haitana, the Cambridge brothers involved in Australia’s Fine Cotton ring-in scandal, are back on the New Zealand racing scene, the “Sunday. Star” reports., Former trainer, Hayden Haitana, aged 45, who was sentenced to 12 months jail for his part in the 1984 substitution of Bold Personality for Fine Cotton, was ordered off the Matamata course on Saturday. Hayden Haitana is banned from racetracks
in New Zealand and in Australia, where he has been warned off courses. Former jockey, Pat Haitana, aged 39, who was suspended for a year for his part in the ring-in, arrived back, in New Zealand last month and has applied to regain his licence. Racing Conference officials say the bid is on hold until Haitana supplies information about his Australian activities. Haitana rode the two-year-old trial winner, Black Post, at Tauranga on July 4 — the first time
he has ridden in a trial or a race since he landed a betting plunge on Roimac in Brisbane five years ago. ? Haiatana believes he is still paying the price of his involvement in the Fine Cotton affair. “Of course I’m still paying — I will always pay.” Haitana’s son, Justin, is apprenticed to Matamata trainer, Bob Autridge, and Haitana says it is for him and his other three sons that he wants to return to the track.
