Cheeky theft from tyre centre

Thieves masquerading as workmen pulled off a cheeky burglary of a Christchurch tyre centre during the The burglars were watched loading car batteries and tyres into a van at Central City Tyres, Armagh Street, on Saturday evening by Southpower staff working across the road. But because they were in overalls and in full view of passers-by, the electricity workers believed everything was above board, said the tyre centre manager, Mr Dave Straker. It was only after they had left, leaving the door open, that the police were alerted. The burglars escaped with 30 batteries, 38 tyres and tools valued at $lO,OOO in one of the company’s vans. It was recovered on Sunday.
