Brownie anniversary The Cotswold Brownie Pack celebrates its twenty-first anniversary tomorrow, at St Gregory’s Church Hall, Bishopdale, from 6 p.m. Up to nine former Brownie leaders have been invited to the function, during which the Cotswold Guides Junior Leader will be presented with her Junior Leader Badge. Miss Julie Walsh, aged 16, of Papanui High School, gained her badge after working with the girls for 12 months and attending a Burgin leadership course. Motorcyclist named The police have released the name of a motorcyclist killed in a collision with a car on State Highway 7, near the Hanmer Springs turn-off on Sunday. He was: Christopher Edward Smale, aged 20, of Motueka. The Ministry of Transport in Christchurch is seeking witnesses to the accident. Leatherwear stolen Clothing valued at $32,500 was stolen from a Linwood leatherwear shop last week. Skirts, jackets, trousers, bodices, vests and jeans were taken from Valentine’s N.Z. Leather. The offenders cut through the ceiling to gain entry. Airline cuts route A shortage of long-haul aircraft has forced Continental Airlines to end its twice-weekly AucklandTahiti services from October 1. The Manager, Mr Richard Elliot, said Continental was expanding rapidly in the Pacific, especially after winning the SeattleTokyo route, but did not have the capacity to meet the growth. “We had to reconsider our resources and use the aircraft available on routes where demand was highest,” he said. The Los Angeles-Tahiti-Auckland-Sydney DCIO service began in late 1986 as part of a Continental expansion plan. The airline’s daily Auck-land-North America service through Auckland will not be affected.—PA
