Racing dates for new season

PA Wellington The New Zealand Racing Authority has released the schedule of racing dates for the 1989-90 racing season. Next season, for the first time in New Zealand, the T.A.B. will be open on Thursdays. All 52 Thursdays will host at least one full totalisator meeting with a total of 107 meetings on Thursdays — 35 galloping, 45 trotting and 27 greyhounds. The T.A.B. will be open on 310 occasions during the season, compared with 254 during 1988-90. Apart from Sundays, Boxing Day, Good Friday and Christmas Day, there will be only two days (one in August and one in July) without a T.A.B. meeting. There will be 680 meetings (648 full totalisator and 32 on-course only) during 1989-90, compared with 657 during the current season. This includes one special licence issued to the Greymouth Trotting Club for its centenary. Racing will have the most licences (349) with 338 full totalisator meetings and 11 on-course only meetings, while harness racing will have 233 meetings, 223 full totalisator and 10 on-course only.

Greyhound Racing has continued its growth with 98 licences,' 84 full totalisator and 14 oncourse only. The dates for the first two months of the season ■ are:— AUGUST Tue 1: Waikato GRC.
