Voyage of discovery to Antarctic
Marjorie and Gerry Clark are organic orchardists in Kerikeri. In 1983, 56-year-old Gerry, a deeply concerned environmentalist, set out on a quest for new information on sea birds. He sailed around Antarctica for three years in his 10-metre wooden yacht,- Totorore. Much of the time he was alone. His remarkable adventure of discovery and sur-
vival has won him an M.B.E. and awards from sailing clubs around the world. Tomorrow and Thursday evenings, Gerry and Marjorie will present a slide talk of the sights and sounds of Gerry’s epic voyage. This will be at the State Trinity Theatre in Worcester Street at 7 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the door at $7 for adults and $4 for school pupils. Paperback copies of
Gerry’s book “The Totorore Voyage” will be on sale. The evening has been organised by the Canterbury Organic Producers group in the hope that the public will see the link between conserving wild environments and environment friendly ways of using our food producing land.
