Negative news
Sir, —The letter headed "Negative news” (June 19) reflected a great deal of truth. One recent headline screamed that "Parents don’t want Bible in schools.” It was followed by gross allegations that thousands of children were receiving Bible instruction against their parents’ wishes. A deputy principal of Newmarket School said: “When they enrolled at the beginning of the year, only nine children out of 110 were exempted from Bible instruction at their parents’ request.” A later survey supposedly revealed they had been reluctant to say what they meant. If parents of Asian origin are really afraid to say what they want, who, without Biblical instruction, will balance the questionable teaching of mythical evolutions, transcendental meditation .or social instruction by homosexual tutors? Sensationalism at the expense of Biblical truths could transform a positive paper into a distasteful rag. — Yours, etc., LOIS FECHNEY. June 23, 1989.
