Help from above
Sir, —An item in Reporter’s Diary this morning (June 16) concerning a retired Waikanae clergyman’s complaint about a television programme on prostitution raises the question: if the good reverend wrote the letter before the programme was shown, and did, in fact, miss the screening because “divine intervention” caused a transmission breakdown in his area, how in heaven did he know whether there was anything offensive in the programme? Divine prophecy perhaps? I did not view
the programme in question so do not feel qualified to comment on it. I have, however, viewed an advertisement for a soon-to-be-released video, apparently aimed at men, which purports to tell them how to pick up women. It may .be tongue-in-cheek, but being an American production, I doubt this. Now this is something which I find offensive. — Yours, etc.,
J. L. YOUNG, June 16, 1989.
