M.O.T. catches 25
Traffic officers caught 25 drinking drivers in Christchurch at the week-end. Thirteen drivers had been given evidential tests overnight on Friday and another 12 overnight on Saturday. Traffic Sergeant Paul Brocas, of the Ministry of Transport, said. “A good proportion of Saturday night’s drinking drivers came from accidents,” he said. “They were literally falling over themselves.” Six non-injury and two moderate injury accidents were reported on Saturday evening. A vehicle was stopped by several taxis after it failed to pull over after colliding with a Gold Band taxi in Rutherford Street, Woolston, about 11.30 p.m.
