Listen to Spike Milligan and John Antrobus in Dinosaurs, National Radio 9.05 this evening, and give yourself a lift. Milligan the dinosaur gallery custodian is cornered by religious maniac Antrobus. Loosely following an Antrobus play, the two improvise the dialogue, building up to a hymnsinging, dinosaur bonecrumbling climax. Australian horn-player Barry Tuckwell, acclaimed as the most brilliant of his generation, talks about his life and music with composer Michael Berkley in Barry Tuckwell: Come Blow Your Horn, Concert Programme 9 this evening. In 20 years as soloist, Tuckwell has had many composers write especially for him. He recently turned to conducting the London Symphony after 13 years as the orchestra’s principal horn. Clarinettist Kenny Dav-
era leads his quartet in Jazz Scene, National Radio 9.05 tomorrow evening. Davern made a short visit to New Zealand last year along with pianist Ralph Sutton and they played at a Wellington concert. Also in the programme: the Bill Holman Big Band, and pianists Tete Montolui and Ray Bryant. Richard Strauss’s “Der Rosenkavalier” remastered on to compact disc was one of The Award Winners, Concert Programme 7.40 tomorrow evening, chosen by the Gramophone critics last year. In this classic recording, made in 1956, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf is Feldmarschallin, Otto Edelmann is Baron Ochs auf Lerchanau, and Christa Ludwig is Octavia. Herbert von Karajan conducts Loughton High School for Girls and Bancroft’s School Chorus, and the Philharmonia Chorus and Orchestra.
