Report release big production

NZPA-AAP Brisbane The release of the Fitzgerald report into Queensland corruption in two weeks would be "bigger than Ben Hur,” the Premier, Mike Ahern, said yesterday. The Queensland Government had hired a pavilion at Brisbane’s Exhibition Grounds to house the media for a Budget-style pre-release “lock-up” after it decided that Parliament House facilities would be too small, he told A.B.C. radio. “The release of the Fitzgerald report is going to be a much bigger production than ‘Ben Hur’ ever was,” he said. “There are over 200 journalists in the lock-up... we have to hire a bigger venue,” Mr Ahern said. A detailed arrangement for the release to be televised live is being finalised, he said. The cost of hiring the venue is being met out of funds allocated to the Fitzgerald Inquiry from the Premier’s Department.
