Debut for strong prop
Kevin Hill, the big, strong prop who captained Country to victory against Town and several provincial sides in recent weeks, will make his debut for the Canterbury A rugby team in its match against Southland in Invercargill this Sunday.
Hill has earned his place with impressive driving play and powerhouse scrummaging for the sub-unions’ side. He plays in the front row of the Ashley club’s senior
team with the Canterbury and former All Black hooker, John Buchan. Only two changes have been made by the selector, Frank Jack, from the combination which walloped West Coast last Sunday. Hill comes in for Tavita Sio, and the other change was forced by Richard Ewins dropping out with an ankle injury. Mr Jack has switched Chris England from lock to No. 8 and recalled John
Jackson to fill the vacancy. There are no changes in the backs — Bruce Deans was not available. The team is:— Robbie Deans, Paula Bale, Andrew McCormick, Wiremu Maunsell, Stephen Bachop, Greg Coffey, Graeme Bachop; England, Murray Henderson, Albert Anderson (captain), Jackson, Rob Penney, Hill, Buchan, Tala Kele. Reserves. — Backs: Allan Lindsay, Wayne Smith, Warwick Taylor. Forwards: Andy Owen, Phil Cropper, SiQ.
