Favourite out of yacht race
PA Auckland The Auckland-to-Fukuoka yacht race favourite, Future Shock, is out of the running after a major change in general handicap piacings. On corrected time, lan Margan’s 17m flyer is more than 240 hours behind provisional handicap winner Shuten Dohji. . The Japanese l'3m yacht, skippered by Minoku Saito, completed the race, in a corrected time of 757.28 hours.
The Auckland yacht Domineer is second on 758.48 hours, followed by Bruce Goodhue’s Fidelis on 762.37 hours.
Because of delays on the Suva-to-Guam leg caused by mast problems, Future Shock is lagging behind on 899.36 hours after the 5850 mile race.
The yacht took line honours in both the Auckland to Suva leg, shaving 18 hours and 11 minutes from the previous record, and the final leg from Guam.
Provisional 1.0. R. results have the Japanese sloop, Tobiume in first place on a corrected time of 659.47 hours, followed by Rackateer (673.39 hours) and Bruce Farr-designed sloop Liberte Express (686.36 hours).
