No health cut under National —Bolger
Wellington reporter No health cuts will be permitted under a National Government, according to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger. He told a public meeting in Hamilton last evening that “health cuts cost lives — and that’s a price I’m not prepared to pay.” Mr Bolger said he had just received a letter from the chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board saying two hospitals — Te Kuiti and Tokoroa — might have to be closed. Yet the Waikato Hospital Board had been applauded by the Minister of Health, Ms Clark. It has also started to charge patients using a public facility to have their kidney stones removed. “I want to know how to save a dollar on health," he said. “I want to know what the real problems are and I want to know how we can give a better service at a better price.”
