Johnson appeal adjourned

Riccarton jockey Chris Johnson will be able to ride at the Timaru Racing Club’s meeting tomorrow after his appeal against a three-day suspension was adjourned following a hearing in Christchurch yesterday. Johnson was suspended for three racedays for alleged Interference in the Brentwood Handicap at the Hororata meeting on May 13. The bulk of the evidence was heard yesterday but a three-man Canterbury District Committee sub-committee adjourned to listen to audio evidence from the original inquiry and to further consider submissions from Johnson’s counsel, Brian Kinley and stipendiary steward Bruce Craik. The appeal committee’s decision is expected to be released on Monday.
