Further remand for Steele
NZPA London A Sydney prison escaper, lan John Steele, was further remanded in custody to June 28 when he appeared in the Lambeth Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with the murder of Carol Lee Messenbird, of Wellington. Steele, aged 29, last month confessed to Miss Messenbird’s murder after he was arrested on several other charges, including armed robberies on London banks and building societies. Steele, on the run from Sydney’s Long Bay jail, is charged with her murder on or about October 21, 1988.
