Injury confirmed

X-rays taken of Kotare Shah Mat’s injured nearfront leg have confirmed a broken pedal bone and the promising juvenile will be confined to a stable for the next three months.

A colt by the Albatross stallion Dominion Hanover (the sire of another promising Canterbury juvenile in Rangern Lad), Kotare Shah Mat won once and was once placed in five starts from Robert Asquith’s Oxford stable this term.

“He is a fit young horse and it will heal okay,” said Asquith. Asquith’s luck was all bad at the Addington trials on Wednesday. Kotare Tobruk, an entrant in tomorrow’s Queen’s Birthday Stakes at Ashburton, slipped off the float while unloading at the trials and there was some doubt yesterday whether he will take his place in the field. “He ran his last 2400 m (mobile) in 3:3 at the trials but didn’t feel as good as he can,” said Asquith. “Today he’s not lame but he is a bit sore,”, said Asquith yesterday. “We are doing everything we can to get him to the post,” he added of the C 4 Marjac colt. $
