Sound work from Lickofice

DAVID McCARTHY
Lickofice, one of the more unlucky of the This-toll-Whitnal stable at May meetings at Riccarton worked soundly at the course yesterday when the No. 6 grass, varying markedly in texture, attracted several trialists in cold conditions.
Lickofice is taking time to leave maiden company and is not one likely to dash through the grades when his graduation does come but he would only need more luck than was his lot last start to show rapid improvement. Yesterday, in the hands of Damian Browne, he ran 600 m in 40.8 after warming up from the 1000 m (1:09). As might be expected the grass tracks have been at full stretch coping with the recent weather. A strip on the outside of the No. 6 provided good footing but closer in was more testing resulting in varying times. Trialists tended also to ease near the finish where the going was well worn.
Godsin, Prinsil, All Ginger, Lickotice’s sister, Midnight Melody, The Snob and Lord Gesmo were among other workers to shine. Godsin races at Wingatui on Monday. No. 6 grass.
