EMI signs up Chunn, Finn label
EMI N.Z. is “chuffed” at the signing of a new New Zealand independent label — Definitive Records.
The label is owned by Tim Finn, formerly of Split Enz, and Mike Chunn, a former member of Citizen Band.
Tim Finn is currently touring the United States and Europe to promote his latest solo album, “Tim Finn.” Mike Chunn is an old school friend of Finn’s and also a former Enz member. He will manage the label and handle Finn’s New Zealand management. Finn said he had been in New Zealand from December to March and it had given him a chance to hear music in Auckland.
“I reject all the negativity and cynicism that gets thrown around here about New Zealand music, and where it should be going and so on.
“There is a wealth of talent out there and the idea of the label is to, firstly, give that talent a chance to be heard nationally and internationally and secondly, a chance for me to put something back into the music industry which has supported me for so long,” he said. The first signing to the label is the rap duo, Double J and Twice The T, from Otahuhu. Chunn said Ray Columbus had recommended Double J and Twice The T.
