Birth a surprise
NZPA staff correspondent , London A shop assistant, Sarah Edes, went into hospital yesterday with a suspected hernia, and came out with a 3.5 kg baby. Mrs Edes, aged 21, of Andover, has been married only nine weeks, and had no idea she was pregnant. She had complained to her doctor three weeks ago about indigestion and heartburn. A specialist diagnosed a hernia. After a night of pain, Mrs Edes was rushed to hospital to be told she was in labour. A hospital sister, Christine Kneller, said: “This does happen occasionally. Sarah didn’t put any weight on at all.”
