Satirist offers ode to computer
A Christchurch satirist, A. K. Grant, added a lighthearted touch to the launching of the Lincoln College library’s computerised catalogue system yesterday, with an ode to mark the occasion. His ode to O.P.A.C. (Online Public Access System) welcomed the first such system to be set up in a South Island university. The system will speed the search for library material and provide access to the catalogue from terminals throughout the college. Eventually it will completely replace the card index system. The final cost of the system is not yet known because it will be added to as money is made available.
College staff launched the new system with speeches and a cake shaped like a computer terminal.
