Adam award

Planning has started for the 1990 presentation of the $lO,OOO Adam Award for a New Zealand writer. The Adam Award for literature will be made every four years and alternates on a two-yearly basis with the Adam Art Award. The awards have been established on a “no strings attached” basis by Denis and Verna Adam to recognise outstanding achievement by mid-career

artists and writers. The administration of the award will be handled by the literature programme of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Counil. The programme manager, Rosemary Wildblood, says the award will focus on the quality of the writing rather than on book production. The inaugural Adam Award (for art) attracted more than 50 applications and was presented last year.
