National survey probes for healthier lifestyle

PA Auckland Nine thousand New Zealanders are being asked questions designed to create a picture of the national lifestyle. The “Life in New Zealand” Survey has been launched with the release of a questionnaire to the first batch of the national sample. It was commissioned by

the Hillary Commission for Recreation and Sport, undertaken by Otago University and has financial support from the national Heart Foundation, Medical Research Council and Health Department. The chairman of the commission, Sir Ronald Scott, said the survey would provide the first definitive information about lifestyles. It should

take three years to complete, at a cost of about $BOO,OOO. It includes questions about personal physical data, leisure and sports activities, eating habits and other information. The core questionnaire would be followed by four others asking details of leisure patterns, eating habits, health profiles and lifestyle changes.
