Brisbane campaign?
The Matamata trainers, Dave and Paul O’Sullivan, plan to sum up the immediate future of their promising filly, Waikiki, after Saturday night’s Avondale meeting. Waikiki has been entered for the Waitakere Trust 2000, a three-year-old event which will also include Goondoolah. “It could be her last run for the season,” said cotrainer Paul O’Sullivan, "but if she went really well there could be a chance she would head to Brisbane.” Waikiki showed much promise in her first four starts, which resulted in a second and two wins — the second was behind Courtalista in the Lindauer Stakes at Ellerslie on March 4. And it was that latter performance which earned Waikiki a trip to Sydney for the Storm Queen Stakes and A.J.C. Oaks. Unfortunately she struck unsuitable wet ground in both events and ran below her best. — Special correspondent.
