Damascus bows out
Damascus, the dam sire of boom New Zealand-based sire, Pompeii Court, has been retired from the breeding barn at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky at the age of 25. Damascus, United States “Horse of the Year” in 1967 when he won two legs of the Triple Crown, the Belmont and Preakness Stakes, won 21 raced from 32 starts and over SUSI million, a remarkable achievement by the stake levels of those days. Damascus has had 17 crops to race for the winners of 1100 races which have earned over SUS2I million including 61 stakes winners.
