$1.5M theft charge remand
PA Dunedin A 37-year-old man appeared in the District Court in Dunedin yesterday on 69 charges relating to the theft of more than $1.5 million. Lynn Mayer-Hare, unemployed, is charged with committing the thefts at Tauranga on various dates between February 4, 1986, and November 16, 1988. In each case MayerHare is charged with committing theft by fraudulently converting to his own use, money which he received on terms requiring him to account for
it. The sums range from $lOOO to $lOO,OOO, and the total is $1,537,035. All charges were laid indictably, so no plea was entered. Bail was not opposed by the police prosecution, Sergeant Alan Bremner, but he asked that MayerHare be required to report to the police three times a week. On each of the 69 counts, Judge Willy remanded Mayer-Hare on bail until May 10, the only condition being a reporting clause as sought.
