Big calf yarding strains saleyards
A big yarding of calves strained the Amuri saleyards at Culverden last Friday. A total of 2080 calves were yarded and many pens had to be split with gates to accommodate the stock. A large gallery attended and although it thinned towards the end of the day, prices remained constant and were more firm than at the Cheviot sale a week earlier. The stock was in good condition, smaller calves still attracting interest but at reduced prices. The top prices of the day went to the first pen. A total of 20 Hereford cross steers sold for $332, on account of the Henderson Brothers, of Rotherham. • A pen of seven Charolais cross steers, on behalf. of Mr I. H. Atkinson, of Woodbank, Hanmer Springs, sold for $314, while a pen of 10 Angus cross steers, from E. R. A. Florance and sons of Pahau Downs, Culverden, fetched $312.
