Frigates
Sir,—Mr Tizard is now talking about a navy of three frigates. It is not likely that that would allow the navy to have a ship available that was not being repaired, was not being used for training purposes, and was not overseas, at times when we needed one to patrol our waters. The navy needs to have at least four ships. If frigates from Australia are too expensive, we should get something cheaper. We have a choice between buying ships that are designed solely for coastguard work, or a cheap, efficient, longrange design such as the Sirius S9o.—Yours, etc.,
