NZPA-AAP Sydney Investor confidence in blue chip industrial issues helped lift the Australian sharemarket to a firmer close yesterday. Rises led falls about three to two. Amatil led rises in the industrial sector, gaining 30c to 950, and News Corporation, trading exdividend, was up 20c at 1185. BHP gained 8c to 760. BTR Nylex, trading exbonus and exdividend, was up 12c at 410 and Brambles rose 5c to 1105. ANI lost four to 112 after trading erratically throughout the day within a 12 point range. ANI earlier said it did not wish to seek Stock Exchange suspension because of its SI94M exposure to Spedley Holdings, which went into provisional liquidation on Tuesday. Bank issues were mostly firmer with ANZ up 6c to 487, National Australia 6c to 594, and Westpac up 4c to 502. Advance lost 20c to 475 and
