Availability of good quality stock helps ease prices

Prices for most prime stock eased at the Addington Saleyards yesterday in the face of larger yardings. Considering the large increase in stock numbers from last week’s small sale, the drop in values was only slight. The availability of good quality stock helped lamb prices remain firm until later in the sale when prices were forced down by sheer numbers.

Good quality heavy cattle also continued to attract prices similar to recent weeks, although selling became difficult for medium and lighter animals. Prime lambs Some of the best quality lambs to be offered for some time were offered yesterday. Prices reached $31.80 for a line of 25 lambs from O. E. Bothwell of Ladbrooks. Several other sales were made at $26 to $3O. Prices were at first able to maintain the levels of last week but eased as the salee progressed. Too many lambs for sale combined with a shortage of killing space forced prices to drop by $1.50 to $2 by the end. A total of 1828 lambs was yarded yesterday, compared with 801 last week.

Values were: Heavy lambs: $22 to $26 with exceptional sales to $31.80. Medium lambs, $lB to $2O. Light lambs, $l4 to $l6. Sales included.— A. D. and D. W. Monk (Rangiora), 22 at $l6 to $22; G. B.
