Lottery grants rise to $70M
The Lottery Board will increase pay-outs to community, sports, and arts groups to $7O million in the coming year, the Lottery Board chairman, Dr Michael Bassett, said yesterday.
Distributions from the board last year totalled $5l million. The biggest beneficiary will be the National Museum, which will receive a special $lO million grant to help with training museum workers and establish a national catalogue of museum col-
lections. Other distributions planned for this year (with last year’s allocations in brackets) include: Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, $8 million; Hilary Commission, recreation and sport, $7 million; New Zealand Film Commission, $4.5 million; community facilities funding, $8 million ($5 million); welfare organisation grants,. $5 million ($3.3 million); medical research, $1.5 million ($l.l million).
