U.K. oil bonanza?
NZPA-Reuter London British North Sea oil production was expected to rise dramatically in the next decade, making Britain self-sufficient in oil until the year 2000, a report said yesterday. The report, by the North Sea oil brokers, County Nat West Woodmac, said output could reach a high of 2.5 million barrels per day in the 1990 s as recovering oil
prices encouraged oil and gas investment and led to the development of 42 potential new fields. This would lead to oil self-sufficiency for Britain until the year 2000, it said, adding that new field development would increase output by as much as 1.5 M bpd, raising total production to near 1985 peaks of 2.6 M bpd. Britain’s current production is a little more than IM bpd.
