Fay urged to race ... on the Avon
A Christchurch radio station has challenged the businessman, Michael Fay, to a yacht race on the Avon River.
Radio Avon is confident the millionaire merchant banker and successful cup challenger will take up its offer to sail-off in P-class boats.
“We know he’s a fairly wacky guy and that being so we are confident he’ll join us,” the station’s programme director, Tony Nielson, said. It expects Mr Fay to
respond to the challenge today. About 7.30 a.m. today the station will launch its challenger boat on the river near the Stanmore Road bridge. The station will stir up Kiwi cup fever leading up to the challenge some time in May. Mr Nielson said Radio Avon would promote the race as “May — the month of Fay.” Mr Fay is a regular contributor to the station’s sports programmes.
