Naked man arrested
The Christchurch mounted police patrol made its first arrest on Easter Monday — a naked man indecently exposing himself in the Burwood Plantation. Three members of the patrol were on an off-duty training session when they came across the man in a public area at the plantation. He will appear in the District Court on April 3 charged with indecent exposure.
Till tray stolen
Two swift would-be shoppers took an open till tray and its contents from the Hunters and Collectors leather store, Manchester Street, on Tuesday afternoon. The men, aged in their 20s, were dressed in black and wore wire-rimmed glasses. They had shoulder-length peroxide hair. The offenders got away with $2OO.
Woman bashed
A woman, aged 18, was bashed and robbed in the toilets of the New City Hotel on Tuesday evening. The offenders took $34, a pair of Dr Marten boots, three rings, three chrome-studded leather bands, and 44 valium pills. She suffered a broken nose and bruising in the attack. She was found lying on the toilet floor by a barman who had been concerned for her safety.
$65,000 furniture theft
The police are investigating two burglaries which have netted $65,000 of furniture, furniture coverings and ceramics. Nineteen leather lounge-suite pieces and 61 cartons of ceramic pottery were stolen from Thai Kiwi Trading, Blenheim Road, on March 23. Sometime between February 11 and March 14, 33 parcels of leather coverings valued at $25,000 were taken from Avondale Furniture Group, Wainoni.
