It is hoped to prepare club members for leader-

ship involvement in the Live Y’ers club. The Live Y’ers Club is for young adults interested in a social club which covers topics on leadership and life skills. Young people aged 15 or older take part in varied sessions, where

speakers talk on issues such as finding a flat, swotting techniques, communication skills, and coping with stress. They also learn about programme planning, group management, bush

skills, and decision making.

People from the Live Y’ers Club often work as voluntary leaders on Y.M.C.A. programmes and camps to put their knowledge into action. These three clubs start during the last week of February, but people are welcome to join as the

term progresses. Enquiries can be made to the Y.M.C.A., 12 Hereford Street, telephone 660689. Geranium

New Zealand Girl Guides are using a specially propagated geranium to mark the centenary of the birth of one of the founders of their movement, Lady Olave Baden-Powell. The Olave BadenPowell geranium is seen as something alive and special to enable guides to mark the occasion in a

tangible way. It will be available for sale throughout the year. February 22 is traditionally celebrated in more than 110 countries as Thinking Day, the shared birthday of Lady Baden-Powell and her husband, Lord Robert Ba-den-Powell. The chief commissioner of the New Zealand guides, Mrs Joyce Evans, of Palmerston North, was awarded The Kiwi during this year’s Thinking Day awards. It is given for outstanding service to the movement.

The only South Island member to receive an award was Mrs Elizabeth Winter, a national training adviser, from Blenheim. She received The Kauri, for exceptional service to the movement.
