Bavadra in hospital PA Auckland Dr Timoci Bavadra, the deposed Prime Minister oi Fiji in the coup led by Major-General Sitiveni Rabuka. is in Auckland Hospital, the “New Zealand Herald" reports. Hospital staff last evvening would not disclose Di Bavadra’s ailment or condition. Quake hits Wellington A small but sharp earthquake jolted the Wellington region last evening,but there were no reports of damage. A seismological observatory spokesman said the quake, about 4.5 on the Richter scale, was centred about 80km from Wellington, east of Cape Campbell.— PA. Serious injuries Two people are in Christchurch Hospital with serious head injuries after separate road accidents at the week-end. A man lost control and fell off a motorcycle on Tunnel Road, Heathcote, shortly before midnight on Saturday, and a woman crashed a car into a pole in Rangiora yesterday morning. Man shot by flaregun The police say a man was shot in the stomach with a flaregun during a domestic dispute in a Massey house on Saturday. Late last evening he was in a satisfactory condition, said an Auckland Hospital spokesman. A 44-year-old man will appear in the District Court at Henderson today on an assault charge. —PA. Fall into crater A woman who fell 30 metres into the crater of an extinct volcano injured her spine and was winched to safety by a helicopter crew. The helicopter lowered a stretcher to the woman on a winch and carried her to the top of Mt Wellington to a waiting ambulance. The woman, believed to be aged about 20, was taken to Auckland Hospital suffering from back, neck and internal injuries.—PA. Woman struck by train A woman, aged 64, was killed instantly when she was struck by a goods train as she walked along the tracks near Matamata railway yards yesterday morning, the police said. She was Joyce Gray, of Matamata. —PA.
