Westburn Grant annihilates field

The outstanding Sydney three-year-old pacer, Westburn Grant, was being labelled a champion after he annihilated the opposition in last Friday evening’s sAustloo, ooo New South Wales Derby at Harold Park. Westburn Grant, despite being

taken on by the second favourite, Rockleigh Victory, from the butset, cleared out to win by 21m, and slashed a second off Bag Limit’s all-comers track record for the mobile 2350 m. The exciting Land Grant-West-burn Vue colt paced the distance

in 2:53.8, a brilliant mile rate of 1:59 around the tight 743 m circuit. Bag Limit’s former record was set in a heat of last year’s Inter-Dominions when beating Village Kid. Westburn Grant, part-owned by Prebbleton’s Barney and Colleen

Breen, and raced by the Breens with the Sydney trainer, Vic Frost, and his wife Margaret, ran his last mile in 1:58.8, the first half of that in 58 when being pressured by Rockleigh Victory. Westburn Grant has now raced 11 times for 10 wins.
