Greyhounds. Lindara Lass top prospect
The ultra-consistent stayer, Lindara Lass, heads the list of prospects in the first qualifying heat of the Lord Shannon Cup at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s on-course totalisator meeting this evening. Two qualifying heats will be run to select a field for the $l5OO Final on Thursday, March 6, at Queen Elizabeth II Park.
Lindara Lass has had to play second fiddle to the crack Methven-trained stayer, Dawn Mist, in recent outings, and should more than hold her own over the 560 m against her class three rivals.
Metal Tip was an impressive winner at the club’s last meeting on February 7, and she comes from the very much in-form Derek Copland kennel of Ashburton. Away Laughing has never been able to reach his full potential because of unsoundness. But in spite of his problems he must be rated a leading chance, while the recent Invercargill winner, Shiny Spot, appears the other most likely qualifier in the first heat.
The long striding Irishbred bitch, Curryhills Bold, yet to display her full capabilities at Q.E.11 Park after striking problems on the home bend in her debut, must be the most popular choice in the second heat. Katie Waits returned an out-of-character performance at Wellington on Monday when finishing at the tail of the field, but
unfortunately she did not travel well and lost 2kg on the trip. If she has recovered from that ordeal then she should show her true form, and her clash with Curryhills Bold will be the highlight of the evening.
