Cellist in U.K. festival
A New Zealander, Ross Pople, is to lead London’s Festival Orchestra in the Summer Festival of Music, held in cathedrals throughout Britain. Although the festival has been held annually for the last four years, some of the concerts will be recorded by 8.8. C. television for the first time and they may be screened in New Zealand. Pople, who is in the unusual position of directing the 22-strong orchestra from the cello, has gained a reputation as an imaginative musician and innovative entrepreneur since he arrived in Britain in 1960. — NZPA.
