Colts softball team
Six senior representative players are among those named in the Canterbury colts softball team to contest the national under 21 tournament in the Hutt Valley from February 20 to 23. These include the big-hitting Darren Rea who played for Combined Services at the national tournament and the Canterbury representatives, Errol Byrne, Dion Kerr, Dean Taikato, Aaron Flynn and Steve Cate. At the Winfield national tournament at Invercargill in early January, Rea finished fourth in the top section batting averages with .406 while Flynn was third in the B section list with a mighty .457. The full Canterbury Colts team is: Steve Paul, Errol Byrne (Papanui); Glen Lapslie, Willie Temata (Merivale); Carl Franklin, Brad Sherry (Richmond); Dion Kerr (Suburbs); Darren Rea (United); Dean Taikato, Aaron Flynn, David Hawker, Shane Nalepa, Michael Rush (Woolston-Cardinals); Steve Cate (Burnside). Coach: Mike Nalepa. Manager: Judy Hawker.
