Gnome taken
Sir, —I sympathise with D. Martin (January 12) whose gnome was stolen. Last week a gnome that for years was happily fishing out of a small pond in my front garden was stolen. This disgraceful behaviour is becoming increasingly more common in Christchurch. Early last year, a large butterfly attached to the outside of my house was smashed by vandals. Obviously
these people have different tastes and do not appreciate this art, but it is a sad commentary on our society that some find it amusing to destroy other people’s treasured possessions. — Yours, etc., R. ZIMMERMAN. January T 9, 1989.
