Botham in hot seat
NZPA-PA London lan Botham was yesterday ordered to attend court in February after apologising by letter to magistrates for doing more than 160 kilometres on a motorway. The cricket star was found to be driving at 172 km when police checked his speed over a third of a mile on the M 42 on September 17 last year, the bench at Droitwich was told. Botham, aged 33, admitted exceeding the 70 m.p.h. (113 km speed limit in his letter and said he was late, for a business meeting and had not been concentrating fully. “I was driving a powerful car and certainly had no idea I was driving at an excessive speed.”
