No leads on missing girl
PA Auckland A national appeal has failed to produce any leads on a missing Auckland teenager, Joanne Chatfield, who disappeared from an Auckland University dance nearly six weeks ago. The Onehunga High School pupil from Mangere Bridge left the dance alone about midnight and friends have told the police she looked
unhappy at the time. She had a distinctive punk rocker hairstyle — with half her head shaved and long, gelled spikes on the other side. An item about Joanne, aged 17, on the television programme, “Crimewatch,” brought several reported sightings from as far as Invercargill. The Mangere police say there are no developments but a number of lines of inquiry are being followed.
Joanne lived with her mother, Claire, but had started moving into her father’s Onehunga flat on the day she went missing. Mrs Chatfield said she was starting to fear something sinister had happened. She said it was hard to believe Joanne had intentionally disappeared, especially as she had no money with her. A family friend has offered a $lOOO reward.
