House builders busy in November

PA Wellington November, 1988, was the house building industry’s busiest month since GST was introduced. An estimated 2094 new dwelling permits were issued, a 13.4 per cent increase on November, 1987. The Statistics Department said it was the first time since the pre-GST period of July-to-Septem-ber, 1986 that more than 2000 new dwelling permits were issued in one month. Other significant increases occurred in Hamilton City (64 to 88), Lower Hutt City (22 to 34), Tamaki City (18 to 31), Marlborough County (11 to 24), Tauranga County (38 to 75), Waimairi District (36 to 44), and Whakatane District (14 to 28). Activity fell in Auckland City (from 77 to 54), Manukau City (114 to 101), Takapuna City (63 to

50), Rodney County (72 to 49), Rotorua District (55 to 36), and Thames-Coro-mandel District (47 to 29).
